Who is the John Howard Society?

The John Howard Society of Manitoba, Inc is a non-profit community-based justice organization that helps male offenders and their families to live healthier crime-free lives. It helps offenders accept responsibility for what they have done and make changes.

Restorative justice is the basis of our organization and work. The Society values safety, prevention and accountability as a means of restoring harmony to a community and to the victims of crime.

Mission Statement

Working with victims, offenders and communities to respond to the causes and consequences of crime.

The John Howard Society of Manitoba, Inc. – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

In 1957, the John Howard and Elizabeth Fry Society helped male and female offenders and their families. Throughout the seventies we focused on reforming the criminal justice system. In 1983, the John Howard Society of Manitoba, Inc. became a separate organization, focused on helping male offenders.

In the twenty-first century, we focus on restorative justice as a means of helping offenders, victims and communities hurt by crime. We also work toward involving the public in the criminal justice system.

Working with victims, offenders and communities to respond to the causes and consequences of crime.
