Review Session Seven of the John Howard Society Respectful Fathering Group Facilitation Guide
Respectful Fathering was developed by the John Howard Society of Manitoba as an educational tool intended to improve parenting skills by exploring topics that are relevant to participants. The material used in this manual addresses some basic questions about parenting and child development. While all can benefit from participating in the program, it is especially suited for young Aboriginal fathers.
Each session in the manual contains techniques and strategies to aid in effectively facilitating the session’s objectives. The sessions are designed to be approximately two hours long, but some flexibility may be needed. Elements can be omitted or adapted according to resource limitations and specific participant needs. The handouts are listed at the beginning of each session, although not every handout is intended to be used during delivery of the program material. Rather, they are designed to compliment the information contained in each section. Sessions are geared to provide for active participation and allow ample time for practice and discussion.
